July topic, “Mystery”

“Mystery“, ” ambiguity”, “ uncertainty”.

Uncertainty is typically not desirable  in everyday experiences, but uncertainty in the form of ambiguity may be a defining  feature of aesthetic experiences of modern art.

A painting example is, “Nighthawks“ by Edward Hopper.

There is also ambiguity in scale for example in aerial photography.

Another classic example of mystery is the famous painting “Mona Lisa” by Leonardo da Vinci.

So find a photo that is perhaps confusing or ambiguous and something that you cannot exactly figure out what it is and that may well be an answer to this months topic of “mystery“.
